Wrap the text in single asterisks, like *hello*, and WhatsApp shows it in bold. Make sure there are no spaces between the asterisks and the words. In our formatter, type your message, click the Bold (B) button, and copy the result — the live chat-bubble preview shows exactly how it will look before you send.

Use _underscores_ for italic, ~tildes~ for strikethrough, and three backticks for monospace. WhatsApp also supports inline code with single backticks, bullet lists with "- ", numbered lists with "1. ", and block quotes with "> ". Our tool inserts all of these correctly with one click.

WhatsApp has no native underline option — its markdown only covers bold, italic, strikethrough, monospace, lists, quotes and code. To get an underlined look you need Unicode-style characters. Our formatter includes an "Underline & fonts" tab that generates copy-paste underlined text for chats, status and bios, with a note on where it renders reliably.

Usually there is a missing or extra symbol, a space between the asterisk and the word, or hidden formatting from copy-pasting out of another app. Smart-punctuation autocorrect can also swap the asterisk for a different character.
